Tati and Renet were already sharing photos, videos, and music on their phones, and on their last school trip, they started exchanging glances. However, what could have been the beginning of a love story turns into an ending.
After making my first film, “To My Dead Beloved”, which talks about grief and how images recorded through a VHS camera can have certain consequences in the lives of those who watch it, I decided that my next film would continue investigating these themes, but now focusing the story on the teenage world.

As a director who was once a high school teacher and is the father of a teenager, I started thinking about social networks, this community of pleasure and happiness based on appearances, this universe inhabited by self-images and promises of eternal pleasure, and of how this ends up subjecting everyone, but young people in particular, to overexposure that generates blurred boundaries between public and private spheres that can often be fatal.
This was the starting point for writing ‘Rust’, a story about fear, insecurity, growth and misogyny.
